What is your P.U.R.P.O.S.E for 2009!

How have you been affected by all the things that have occurred this past year? Have you been frozen by fear or indecision? Lots of folks have lost their job or taken cuts in pay and benefits. Then the news media bombards us with reasons things will stay the same or get worse. Are you comfortable just waiting and doing nothing? If not, I congratulate you. You will be one of the few that take charge of their life and create a future that is full of opportunity and success. Now is a perfect time to discover what your true purpose in life is.

Do you know what your real purpose in life is? If not, how do you find out? The next few paragraphs should come with a WARNING! If you decide to pursue your purpose, you may be challenged in ways that make you uncomfortable. In the same way that water takes the path of least resistance, (ever noticed how many twists and turns a river has), we as humans tend to do the same thing. We end up taking years to accomplish what could be done in a much shorter time if we realize where we are going and have reason to get there. What if we took the road less traveled? One that made our heart race? Not many are willing to face the challenges of finding their life purpose. If you are, here are some tips to helping you find your PURPOSE.

Potential. Did someone in your past tell you that you would never be successful? We have to put those kind of thoughts behind us and realize that even at our best we will only reach about 50 % of our true potential. What is your potential? How close do you think you are to reaching your fullest potential? If you truly think you are at the pinnacle, let's spend some time together. If you have reached the top, I want to know your secret. If not, maybe we can work as a team to discover ways you can stop limiting yourself.

Unique. You are one of a kind. No other being has all the same physical and mental attributes that you have. Even identical twins can be identified by their own unique DNA. Since we are unique and different, why do we try so hard to be just like everyone else. Why do we try to live up to the expectations and desires of others. It is time to embrace who you are and realize that it is Ok to be different.

Realize. Does it seem real? The fact that your life could be different than it is today? That there is more to life than just a daily grind. If you are not satisfied with the things around you, your job, your spiritual life, your relationships, take a minute and just picture what it could be like. There is no reason that can't be your reality.

Probe. Look deep inside for the real you. What were you doing the last time you felt really happy? What things in life create that passion that makes you want to do things just for the feeling it gives you? Think back to when you were six or seven years old. What brought you joy then? Going through some of these exercises will surely give you insight as to your true purpose in life.

Objective. When we are comfortable admitting there are things that could bring more joy and purpose to our life, we must create a goal or objective. Don't be too rigid in this. The end goal may be a bit of a moving target. As long as the goals and actions to get you where you want to be consistently align with your vision and values, you will eventually arrive at your destination.

Success. What is your definition of success? Does it mirror what your purpose in life is? Or have you allowed others' idea of success to cause you to lose your way? Determine for yourself the conditions that will give you satisfaction. As long as you let others influence that, you will never feel the exhilaration that comes along with your own success.

Enjoy. As you take this journey to identifying your purpose and then taking the steps to fulfilling that purpose, stop along the way to enjoy the people around you. Embrace the challenges and opportunities that come your way. Enjoy the energy you get from trying and accomplishing something new and different.

If all this seems like an enormous task, or if you feel overwhelmed about the possibilities, give me a call. My job is to help you take charge and seek your full purpose in life. Don't look back in December of 2009 and regret missing all the opportunities available to you. Now is the time.

Till next time,
Russell
